The Art of Collecting: A Celebration of Art & Artist Trusts & Foundations
27 June—6 July 2018
The exhibition celebrates the rich and diverse collections of a group of art and artist trust and foundations – The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, The Jerwood Collection, The Ingram Collection and The Fleming Collection – and tells the history of their creation and how they all work individually and collaboratively today. The exhibition also shines a spotlight on key works by female artists and showcases a range of the contemporary artist awards and bursaries each organisation runs.
The Art of Collecting will include the workof Wilhelminda Barns-Garham, Christopher Wood, Maggie Hambling, Craigie Aitchison, Tristram Hillier, Chantal Joffe and Rose Wylie among others.
Mall Galleries is operated by the Federation of British Artists, a major visual arts charity established in 1961. The Federation (FBA) comprises eight of the UK’s leading art societies, specialising in oil, portrait, marine, wildlife, watercolour, pastel, printmaking and sculpture. The Galleries play host to many of the UK’s leading open art competitions, as well as other temporary exhibitions.
The Federation receives no on-going public funding and is entirely reliant for its income on sponsorship, subscriptions from Friends and Patrons, Exhibitions and Events and sales commissions. The charity places great importance on its educational activities.
Mall Galleries is Central London’s leading gallery celebrating contemporary visual arts through a lively and diverse programme of exhibitions and events.
Many of our exhibitions focus on contemporary representational art, each of them offering paintings, sculpture, prints or drawings for sale at affordable prices.
