Awards — Mayfair Gallery Publication Award

The Mayfair Gallery Publication Award was created in 2020 with the intention to promote outstanding research and publications produced by art galleries in Mayfair. It is an annual celebration of the important contribution made by Mayfair galleries to art research and the art world’s book trade.

Since its inception, more than twenty galleries have participated in the programme. Judges including international art critics and curators are invited annually to evaluate submitted publications, and the final results are announced towards the conclusion of each year.

2020 Winner

Robilant + Voena — Ugo Mulas: Creative Intersections

This comprehensive volume brings together Ugo Mulas’ photographs of Lucio Fontana, Piero Conagra, Fausto Melotti, and Michelangelo Pisoletto. Constituting an archive of post-war Italian art, Mulas’ photographs provide illuminating insight into the practices of these important artists. Accompanying the images, there are selected works, brought together by the Mulas’ own commentary on the practices of his peers, and his place at the intersections of their work.

Creative Intersections accompanied an exhibition at Robilant+Voena London in 2019, which displayed many of Mulas’ images, alongside works by the selected artists. The show featured great modern artworks, whilst demonstrating how Mulas was able to bridge the gap between documentary and artistic endeavour, producing powerful compositions that draw upon the inventive manner of his subjects.
